BLACK ATHLETE SPORTS NETWORK

2 OUT OF 3
AIN'T BAD

FEEL THE POWER
OF THE BLACK QUARTERBACK

DONOVAN MC NABB & DAUNTE CULPEPPER
TWO OF AMERICA'S RICHEST ATHLETES

It isn't going to do a damn thing for your bank account or your financial woes. Still the fact that two of the three highest paid players in NFL history are now Black and to boot Black Quarterbacks is reason to Rejoice. Donovan McNabb and now Daunte Culpepper. Along with Buffalo's Drew Bledsoe they are the Big Three salary wise of all time.

It's the symbolism stupid as some might say. With every new advance by African Americans in the NFL specifically and sports in general it gets harder for the good ole' boys to exclude African Americans from the coaching lines and the executive suite without highlighting their bigotry and unfairness.

Daunte Culpepper welcome to the Club. The Best of the Best. Wonder if 10-15 years from now when Culpepper and McNabb are finished tearing up the NFL if team owners will contend neither of them is good enough to be an NFL head coach or to be president of an NFL team. Things had better be a lot better a decade from now or fear for America's future in the 21st century.

As to Mr. Culpepper the reason for today's Ode to Success is that the Minnesota Vikings have just this past week signed him to a 10 year and $102 million contract which may prove the most lucrative ever at "worst" ( you should have this problem ) the second or third best contract in NFL history.

For those of you who just got back from colonizing Mars and have been slightly out of touch the last four years, Culpepper who stared in college at QB for Central Florida was chosen early in the 1999 NFL draft by the Vikings. The other most notable in that draft being none other than fellow MultiMillionare Donovan McNabb grabbed by Philadelphia.

Culpepper began proving himself at once for the Vikings and was named starting Quarterback for the 2000 season. That year he led Minnesota to the NFC championship game and was chosen for the Pro Bowl. In 2001 a knee injury shortened his season to just 11 games still he passes for 2612 yards and threw 14 touchdowns while rushing for 416 yards.

Last season Daunte was back to form and second in the NFL with 3963 yards passing and 18 TDs for a team that didn't do all that well otherwise. We need to mention Culpepper has proven to have one Achilles Heel so far.  Last season he was responsible for 32 turnovers and 23 interceptions. Ouch.

What does the future hold for Culpepper and McNabb, both 26 years old and born within two months of each other. First of all an incredible decade or more of sheer excitement for football fans as only the patented style of most Black Quarterbacks can deliver it. Each is also a good bet to bring their team one or more SuperBowl victories.

While these two may never face off in the SuperBowl since they play in the same Division, the Game of Games, the contest we drool over here in the Box, a defining moment in the history of sports, the first ever SuperBowl featuring two Black starting Quarterbacks is getting closer. Either McNabb or Culpepper will likely be there. Quite possibly both will experience a Black on Black SuperBowl matchup before their careers end.

It has almost happened. It will happen. Once it does expect to see it again and again as African American Quarterbacks come to Dominate the one position racism and the status quo has prevented them from in the past. Nothing can stop them now. They are just too too good. Evidence Daunte Culpepper and Donovan McNabb among a growing number of outstanding Black starting NFL Quarterbacks.

It may not be money in the bank for you and me but it sure feels Good . Feel the POWER !
