A big athletic man, Grant fought Lennox Lewis for the title only to be knocked out in two rounds. In his next fight against Jameel McCline knocked him out with the first punch and Grant broke his ankle in the process.  

And his attempt to make another comeback at the title ended when Dominick Guinn stopped Grant in the seventh round. For the past seven years, there has been time off followed by victories over second tier fighters.  For Grant, this was his last hurrah at big time boxing. 

Coming off an impressive victory over Chris Arreola, Tomasz Adamek is now dreaming of adding a heavyweight championship to his Cruiserweight and light heavyweight titles and the taller Grant provided him practice at fighting bigger and taller heavyweights. 

As for the fight itself, Adamek boxing skills proved decisive as his quickness and mobility allowed him to fire off combinations against the taller Grant.  However, Grant nailed Adamek with some good shots in the second half of the fight.

The first half of the fight saw a tentative Grant fighting as his jab was more pawing than piston like but over the second half, he finally got his jab untracked and nearly ended Adamek's dream of a heavyweight title in the final round as a right hand wobbled him and he struggled to say up.

The fight showed one thing clearly, Adamek does not have the punch to scare the Klitschko brothers and if he had trouble at times with Grant, who at his peak was not as good at the Klitschko brothers, he is not ready for the Klitschkos. 

OTHER BOUTS

Across the Atlantic, Marco Huck solidified his hold over the Cruiserweight division as he stopped Matt Godfrey within five rounds.  Throughout the bout, Huck left no doubt who was the better fighter this night as he sent Godfrey down four times, the first being in the second round. 

Before the fight, Godfrey promised to bring the belt back to America and show Huck, who was the best but after hitting the canvas twice in the fifth, it was obvious that Huck power determined the result.

The Cruiserweight, like the light heavyweight division, is filled of excellent fighters that very few boxing fans have heard of.  Which is too bad for this is a competitive division with every bout among top ten fighters promises to be a competitive bout.

The recently crowned IBF title hold, Steven Cunningham had already beaten Huck by stopping him in the 12th round. Huck is now in the driver seat of the division but there are still matters to be settled.

A Cunningham-Huck bout will go a long way to clear up the logjam at the top.
