HBCU Hoops To Be Showcased This Weekend on CSTV, ESPN

NEW HAVEN, Ct. -- With conference play starting to heat up in black college basketball, some of this weekend's action will be showcased on national television. CSTV, ESPN2, and ESPNU will highlight men's and women's play from several HBCU campuses.
Beginning on Saturday, the SIAC television and Internet broadcast schedule is set to begin with a doubleheader on CSTV.com with Kentucky State University traveling to Augusta, Ga. to take on Paine College.
As a part of the CSTV contract with the NCAA, CSTV will host a full days worth of Division II basketball on (www.NCAAsports.com/DII). The SIAC simulcast will begin at 5:30 pm, with the start of a back to back doubleheader.
The Kentucky State University Thorobrettes (6-4, 3-2 SIAC) are set to play the SIAC defending champions Paine College Lady Lions (5-6, 4-1 SIAC). In the second game the men will take the court at 7:30 pm EST.
KSU’s men’s team is currently in fourth place in the conference (6-3, 4-2 SIAC) and is looking to spoil the home court advantage for Paine who is third in the conference (6-3, 5-1 SIAC).
On Monday, ESPNU and ESPN2 will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a showcase of action from the MEAC, SWAC, and SIAC. The action begins at noon EST on ESPN2 when Delaware State (6-9, 3-0 MEAC) visits Maryland-Eastern Shore (2-13, 0-4 MEAC).
At 1 pm on ESPNU, defending SIAC champion Stillman (6-3, 5-1 SIAC) hosts Tuskegee University (1-8, 1-3 SIAC) as head coach Leon Douglas, who led the Tigers to the title last season, will make his first visit back to Tuscaloosa, as he leads Tuskegee this season.
At 4:30, ESPNU begins a triple header of HBCU contests. First, a women's MEAC battle takes center stage as Coppin State (8-6, 3-0 MEAC) visits Hampton (7-6, 3-1). The battle between the Coppin men (3-12, 1-2 MEAC) and Hampton men (5-9, 2-2 MEAC) will follow at 7 pm.
The triple header is capped off by a SWAC battle at Baton Rouge, La. as Mississippi Valley State (6-9, 3-0 SWAC) takes on Southern University (3-13, 2-2 SWAC) at 9 pm. Despite their slow start, the Jaguars pulled off a huge upset earlier in the week when they defeated Jackson State.
The Monday games will be broadcast as apart of ESPN's new themed “Student Spirit Week”. This week has been created to spotlight the most passionate student sections around the country.
As part of Student Spirit Week, the games will showcase the student body and highlight a number of each schools' traditions.
