Mothers Making A Difference To Host Kickoff Reception

HOUSTON -- Mothers Making A Difference (MMAD), a non-profit 501c(3) organization, hosted a kickoff reception at the Mercedes Benz-Sugarland showroom.

Established in September of 2005, MMAD's mission is to support and enhance the lives of members of the Houston-area community, by embracing  them through various programs. These programs encourage parents by aiding in their knowledge and awareness to offer support in addressing issues affecting their daily lives.


This year, MMAD has joined forces with the MothersBasketball Association to raise funds for the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation and a local charity, Ready Women, Inc.

The Dikembe Mutombo Foundation is dedicated to improving the health education, and quality of life for the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo.


The Foundation strives to accomplish this goal through an emphasis on primary health care and disease prevention, the promotion of health policy, health research and increased access to health care and education for the people of Congo.


Ready Women, Inc. provides free comprehensive grooming services to women who have completed back to work programs. The services include: hairstyling, make-up application, skincare instruction, skincare analysis, and image consulting.


Mothers Making a Difference will host an "Evening of Passion and Purpose", beginning Thursday, July 26th through Sunday the 29th at the Intercontinental Hotel in Houston.


There will be three other events held in addition to hosting the Mothers Basketball Association (MBA) 2007 Annual Conference.


On Friday, July 27th, MMAD will host a Gospel Concert from 7:30-10:30 p.m. at Abundant Life Cathedral Church, located at 11230 Harwin in Southwest Houston.

Later that same evening, MMAD will have a Celebrity Casino Night from 9:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m. at the Intercontinental Hotel.


On Saturday, July 28th, MMAD will host their First Annual "Evening of Passion and Purpose" Black Tie Gala at 7:00 p.m. at the Intercontinental Hotel.  Tickets are $125.00 per person or $1,250 per table (10 seats).


Various NBA moms and their sons are scheduled to be in attendance. NBA players scheduled to attend include: Daniel Ewing (Los Angeles Clippers), Daniel Gipson and Damon Jones (Cleveland Cavaliers), T.J. Ford(Toronto Raptors), Rashard Lewis (Seattle Supersonics) and many others. 


Celebrities from the National Football League, actors, musical artist, and media personalities are also expected to attend.

Kickoff party guests in attendance at the Mercedes Benz-Sugarland location include MMAD members: Renae Jones-Lee (mother of Damon Jones), Juanita Brown (mother of Rashard Lewis), Cheryl Gipson (mother of Daniel Gipson), B.J. Ewing (mother of Daniel Ewing), and Mary Ford (mother of T.J. Ford).


Other dignitaries and personalities scheduled to appear are Pro Basketball Hall of Famer Moses Malone, Tiffany Johnson of the American Cancer Society, Lloyd Gite of the Gite Gallery, KHCW's Yolanda Green (Channel 39), KPRC's Keith Norton (Channel 2), and KRIV's Dominique Keith (Channel 26).
