First, we will go with Ryan Harrison as the male. The 18-year-old from Texas, who originally trained with John Newcombe is considered by many to be the best hope among American teenagers.
He is one of the youngest players ever to win an ATP match, defeating Pablo Cuevas at the age of 16. This year, Harrison played in the main draw at the Australian Open, losing in the first round. He beat Donald Young, among others to play there.
He also competed at the Hall of Fame Tournament in Newport, R.I. in July and won two matches. He is currently ranked 220th in the world.
On Wednesday afternoon, he upset 15th-seeded Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the Open, his first victory in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament.
On the women’s side, we will choose Sloane Stephens. She is 17 and lives in California. Originally from Florida, Stephens won the French and Wimbledon junior doubles with Timea Babos.
Her favorite win was at Wimbledon. She played World Team Tennis this summer for the New York
Buzz. She is scheduled to play doubles in the main draw with Jill Craybas.
The pair will open against Jamie Hampton and Melanie Oudin on Thursday.
They both have bright futures and American
tennis looks to be in good hands.
