Venus, Monfils advance at Flushing Meadows

Andreev was once 18th in the world and made it to the fourth round of the Open in 2008. There was no mystery to this win played on the Grandstand Court in sweltering heat.
Monfils dominated from the beginning as he hit on 64% of his first serves and had 11 aces. He also had numerous net approaches for winners.
He gets to the net faster than almost any player. He's also playing some of the best tennis of his life and the crowd appreciated him on every point.
On the women's side, Venus Williams continued her run with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Canadian Rebecca Marino. Marino played probably the best set of her career in the first set, but Venus dominated in the tiebreaker.
Williams had played very little recent tennis entering the Open, but by the second set looked like the old Venus who has won two Opens.
Venus is a huge crowd favorite and plays off of the
New York crowd.
FRIDAY'S ACTION
Brown, from Jamaica was a surprise entrant in the main draw after cruising through the qualifiers last week.In the Murray match, Brown coverted on an admirable 67% of his first serves and had a match high 137 mph serve.
Brown won his opener in the Open. He's had a good summer, highlighted by a win over Sam Querry in Newport. He's currently ranked no. 98 in the world and that should improve after the Open.
He's also had great success in doubles with partner Ryan Russell.
James Blake
continued to play great tennis on Thursday. He won in four sets before an energized
crowd at Armstrong and is now in the third round, slated to play on Saturday against high ranked Novak Djokovic.
