The good news is that football is on its way (actually it’s been here since July, but my Cable system won’t provide me with my Canadian Football League fix -- BOOOOOO Time Warner Cable!)

The bad news is that we’re gonna hear another season’s worth of bullshit from the talking heads who serve up a main course of disrespect along with a bitter side dish of fantasy.

For years now the concept of “best man plays” has been buried by disinformation, misinformation and pure-d propaganda; and always centered at the most important position in all of American sports -- the quarterback.

Because unless that quarterback looks a certain way, he can’t possibly be an NFL quarterback. If he’s white and can run, he’ll be “praised for his intelligence to avoid the rush and show his mobility.”

If he’s Black and can run, he’ll be criticized for “not standing in the pocket” or “showing a lack of patience.”  Whenever a compliment is given, it always seems left-handed in nature (“he’s letting his natural ability take over”). Suffice to say, it can be a wearing on the psyche to expend so much energy -- to perpetuate so big a lie.

Lets us not forget it wasn’t that long ago that the National Football League placed unspoken quotas on the number of Black players that could be on the field at one time; and you definitely couldn’t be a quarterback on offense or defense.

If weren’t for the sheer force of talent coming from the American Football League (i.e. Marlin Briscoe at QB, Willie Lanier at middle linebacker) the NFL wouldn’t have relented on their modus operandi…

But it is a new season, and in The Deuce & Dime it is time to separate Black from fiction (at least from the QB position) by providing real facts and real analysis about those selected, traded or trick-bagged into playing something other than the spot they should be playing; along with predictions for who does what to whom (in 25 words or less per team).

Over the next week, the following will list the QBs for every NFL team; with special footnotes for the Brothas to better understand why the NFL really does not want the Black QB to be a symbol of success (stats include starting won-loss record, touchdown/interception ratio, completion percentage, career passer rating, post-season record and any awards given.

Today, we look at the NFC East.

1. NEW YORK GIANTS – Ramses Barden must become the new Plaxico; defense will play better now that their defensive coordinator was shown the door.

2. WASHINGTON - Donovan McNabb will again bring a team to the playoffs; but Mike Shanahan will unfairly and incorrectly get credit for his efforts.

3. DALLAS COWBOYS – Tony Romo? You gotta be fuckin’ kidding me! If Romo hands off 40 – 50 times a game to Choice, Jones and Barber – maybe the playoffs.

4. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES – Kevin Kolb? To quote Richard Pryor, “The boy ain’t shit!” They make playoffs only if Vick is the starter and not some Wildcat Nigger.

THE QBs:

GIANTS: ELI MANNING, (50-37, 125/88, 57.0, 79.2, 4-3, one Pro Bowl appearance); Jim Sorgi, Rhett Bomar are the listed backups.

COWBOYS: TONY ROMO, (38-17, 107/55, 63.4, 95.6, 1-3, three Pro Bowls) Jon Kitna (46-69, 152/151, 59.8, 76.6, 0-1) Stephen McGee is the other listed backup.

WASHINGTON: DONOVAN McNABB, (92-49, 216/100, 59.0, 86.5, 9-7, six Pro Bowls; plus 28 rushing TDs, 3,249 yards rushing and a 5.7 average per carry) Rex Grossman 19-12, 33/36, 54.0, 69.5, 2-2)  John Beck is the listed third string backup.

EAGLES: KEVIN KOLB, (1-1, 4-7, 60.8, 68.9) Michael Vick (38-28-1, 72/52, 53.7, 75.9, 2-2, three Pro Bowls; plus 23 rushing TDs, 3,954 yards rushing and a 7.2 average per carry – and the only NFL quarterback to run for over 1000 yards in a season).

Overview: How many times have you heard about McNabb’s supposed lack of accuracy? Well, if you do the math, you will see that the best TD/INT percentage out of every QB in the division belongs to McNabb; and for all the fuss about Brett Favre and his 33/7 season last year, the first QB in NFL history to ever throw over 30 TDs and less than 10 INTs in one season? Donovan McNabb.

McNabb has also won more regular season and playoff games with far less talent - only one WR (Terrell Owens – one season) and two tight ends (Chad Lewis and Brent Celek) gained Pro Bowl status – over 11 full seasons!

To a lesser extent, the same situation can be said for Vick, whose most reliable target was TE Alge Crumpler (because WR Roddy White had yet to sell his soul for a pair of hands).

The effort to stack the deck and supply scrub–in-waiting Kevin Kolb with offensive weapons denied McNabb because the Eagles’ front office wanted only to pimp out his talent is far beyond obvious; just as obvious as the effort to label Vick a “backup QB” or a “Wildcat specialist” – when they know this 3 time Pro Bowler could start for over 20 teams in this league right now.

Either way, the intent to make sure McNabb or Vick would not have a loaded team to work with was two-fold; deter McNabb from another Super Bowl appearance and co-opt Vick into a backup to stunt what greatness and potential may still lay within him.

A fucked-up way to roll, no matter how you slice it…
