The (7-1) 49ers beat New York 20-27 and they could have tied the game but Eli Manning overthrew his receiver at the end of the game.

Then the New Meadowland stadium crowd booed the men in blue as the 11-0 Green Bay Packers defeated New York 38-35 in a scoring love feast and told the Giants they could stay with any scoring machine. New York Fans started grumbling and wanted the head of coach Tom Coughlin.

The Giants were in third place in the NFC East conference before they got their legs back. The game that stands out in the 2011-2012 season would be the game against their co-tenant the New York Jets. The Giants summoned their defense and defeated Gang Green 29-14. The Football Giants went on to Arlington Texas their home away from home and defeated the Dallas Cowboys 31-14. The New York Giants are undefeated at Cowboy Stadium putting Dallas out of the playoffs AGAIN.

So Big Blue went into the playoffs winning three of four games with the return of many injured players solidifying their front four. The question still remained with their slippery defensive secondary.

The Atlanta Falcons were not ready for New York and Big Blue rolled over them in the first quarter. The Giants beat Atlanta 24-2 and the Falcons crossed midfield once. In the next game the New York Football Giants beat the 2011 Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rogers in Lambeau Field. The Giants stood the test of time and held the (15-1) Packers to only 20 points and dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage.   

The New York Football Giants moved on in the National Football Conference Title Game and as likewise, the San Francisco 49ers. It was an overtime thrilling defensive battle at Candlestick Point. The Niners scored first with a 65 yard bomb from Alex Smith to Vernon Davis, giving the GEE men a seven point lead. Victor Cruz and the Giants responded with a 70 yard 5 minute drive to tie the game and it stayed that way until the final seconds of the first half.

 This game reminded many older football fans of the old days of the NFL's great tackling, good pass routes, nice play calling, and nasty wet weather. Both teams struggled to move the ball, both teams defenses took over the game in the middle of the fourth quarter and the overtime.

 It would come down to mistakes which the Niners made. The New York Football Giants capitalized on both mistakes for the victory. In the overtime, both teams again could not move the ball. Lawrence Tynes kicked a 31 yard field goal to end the suspense.

Eli Manning got pounded standing in the pocket for the victory. Manning once again guided his team to Indianapolis, Indiana. He has had an outstanding season guiding his team through the five game mid season losing streak, straight to the playoffs and Super Bowl.

The Giants secondary is still in question as San Francisco’s Vernon Davis proved it with two great TD pass catches from Alex Smith.

The question remains can the New England Patriots exploit this weakness? Sunday February 5, 2012 will tell the whole story.
