Former Ohio State star Maurice Clarett has signed a one-year contract with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League. Clarett met Monday with team officials and UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue, who gave his blessing.

Still seeking another opportunity

Maurice Clarett filed a motion with a judge asking to be allowed to travel to try out with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL. A review of the motion was tentatively set for Monday and was then later pushed back to Aug. 30. He cannot leave the state until he receives clearance from the court.


Football is coming to Norfolk

The United Football League says it is adding a team in Norfolk, Virginia. The team will be the UFL’s sixth team overall will begin play in 2011 as its second expansion franchise.

Overall there were 96 players selected many of whom made even this hardcore NFL writer reach for an old media guide. However in a hodgepodge of faceless players drafted there were a few former NFL players who I wouldn’t necessarily call “Future Stars” selected.

Of course Michael Vick rather would play in the NFL, where the potential for a large income would be vital in his federal bankruptcy case. But if that option isn't immediately available, the UFL and Las Vegas make the most sense.
